Netscape Navigator includes support for a non-standard HTML tag named BLINK. This tag causes the associated text to blink continuously on and off. While the intent of this tag is to serve as an easy way to quickly gain the viewers attention, the result is considered by most users to be distracting and annoying. A similar tag supported by Internet Exploder is MARQUEE, which continuously scrolls its associated text across the screen. BLINK and MARQUEE are good examples of HTML tags that users may not wish to be displayed by their web browser. However, neither browser allows these tags or any other tags to be disabled.
